Frequently asked questions.

Questions about garment care

  • Dry clean only when necessary, such as after heavy sweating or spills. Check with your dry cleaner to ensure they’re equipped for custom garments, as not all have the proper care tools.

For wrinkles, have your suit pressed. To ease wrinkles between wears or while out of town, hang the suit in the bathroom while a hot shower runs to steam it naturally.

Avoid using pant pockets for items like wallets or phones. These are designed for jacket pockets, and using trouser pockets can cause fabric damage or seam pops/tears.

100% wool fabrics are high-quality and more delicate than synthetic blends, so they require gentle care. Custom-made suits are not necessarily more durable than store-bought ones.

  • We recommend professional laundering or dry-cleaning shirts only when necessary, not after every wear.

Frequent cleaning can wear down the fabric over time, and shirts can shrink between 1%-3% after each professional clean.

Ask for light starch, if any.

Avoid washing shirts yourself to preserve their quality.

  • Dry cleaners can sometimes break buttons during cleaning, especially since our suit buttons are often made from delicate materials like mother of pearl or horn.

We cannot replace buttons if they are damaged by your dry cleaner. Please speak with your dry cleaner beforehand to ensure they handle the buttons carefully.

    • Purchase 2 pairs of trousers per suit, especially if you plan to wear the suit frequently.

    • As a general rule, you should own one more suit than the number of days per week you regularly wear suits or suiting pieces, and plan to add to your wardrobe each year. This allows your garments to rest properly, prevents excessive wear, and ensures you always have a backup if something unexpected happens. For example, if you wear suits three days a week, you should start with four suits and build from there.

    • Don’t drive or ride in a car with your jacket on.

    • Avoid carrying backpacks or bags with straps, while wearing your jacket.

    • Put your trousers on after your socks. This helps prevent toenails from catching on interior seams or loose threads, extending the life of your trousers.

    • Properly store and hang your clothing up between wears.

    • “Wear and tear” is an unavoidable part of wearing clothing. If a garment is worn, there is always the possibility of damage. Cleaning and regular use can also contribute to wear over time. Once a garment has been worn, we cannot assume responsibility for tears, stains, fabric pulls or pilling, which commonly occur in high-friction areas such as the inner thighs, or for other issues that may arise from normal wear, cleaning, or handling. We also cannot accept responsibility for items that are lost or damaged.

All King Brothers garments should be treated with care. The quality and cost of custom clothing do not make it indestructible.

If you are located in Minneapolis/St. Paul area, we recommend using Mulberry's Garment Care for your laundering, dry-cleaning, and pressing needs.

Questions about our process

  • Typically, order turnaround time is around 8 weeks, with some slight variation depending on the season and supply chain.

We do have the capability to "rush" an order, and can deliver faster than our typical turnaround. True rush orders will have additional purchase requirements. If a rush order is something you'd require, please let us know.

  • We recommend your body be at a reasonably stable composition before scheduling a fitting. That being said, upon delivery and final fitting of your piece(s), we will take care of any fit alterations if needed.

For our process, small weight fluctuations (around +/- 5-10 lbs) are perfectly normal and not a concern. What really matters for measurements is body composition. It's important to note that body composition doesn’t change significantly from short-term efforts, like intensifying workouts leading up to a wedding. Instead, it’s influenced by long-term lifestyle changes, surgery, or the sustained use of weight loss medication.

  • In addition to the bespoke process we are certified in, we’ve developed a proprietary process that allows us to guide clients in creating an intentional wardrobe. We help define exactly what’s needed, so getting dressed in the morning, or packing for a business trip, requires no thought at all. The result is impeccably fitted, thoughtfully designed clothing, delivered through an experience that’s as seamless and enjoyable as the wardrobe itself.

While there are many reasons we’re the top custom clothing destination in the area, it all comes down to trust. Who do you trust to deliver the ideal fit and make you look and feel your best? Who offers the finest fabrics through exclusive mill partnerships? And who will turn the custom clothing experience from overwhelming to enjoyable? Trust the process so you can proceed with confidence. Schedule your fitting now!

  • We are proud to partner with the best mills in the world! Not only do we offer the largest, highest-end fabric selection in the area, we have full lines from each of our fabric mills. Many shops will have only small selection of the best cloths. We have everyone’s full line. We exclusively carry name-brand, industry respected mills including Dormeuil, Scabal, Loro Piana, Ermenegildo Zegna, Holland & Sherry, Ariston, Piacenza, among others.

  • When it comes to a truly bespoke suit, there’s simply no comparison. We are the only option in the area offering a true bespoke product. Are we more expensive than some places that offer a Made-to-Measure process? Yes. Is it worth it? Ask our clients.

We are transparent in each fitting about what the items cost, as well as the range of price points we are exploring together. You can view our starting prices and package options for custom suits, shirts, sportcoats, and more here.

Most clients prefer the high-end fabrics with additional features like natural stretch, wrinkle resistance, or richer colorations, or proprietary blends. We make sure to showcase our entire range of fabrics, so you can truly appreciate the difference between our introductory fabric options and our true luxury selections.

We exclusively use full canvas construction and partner with highly respected "name brand" mills, ensuring your bespoke suit is not just unique, but of the absolute highest quality.

  • Starting at indicates the base price for a custom suit, with the final cost determined by fabric selection.

In most fittings, we show a range with suits starting at ~$2500 and going up to ~$7500. It is the client’s decision what fabric is selected and purchased.

We make sure to showcase a range of fabrics, so our clients can see, feel, and appreciate the difference between mills, fabric make-up, qualities, properties, etc.

  • Every client is unique, with their own style and preferences, so averages can vary quite a bit. That being said, most clients spend ~$5,000 per outfit.

  • As an appointment-only business, we do not schedule appointments for people to browse.

We are, however, always willing to have a phone conversation or email correspondence to help you figure out if we're the right fit.

While we work with approximately 100 weddings each year, we are not a wedding-only vendor. As a result, our process differs from many of the wedding vendors you may be working with.

Our focus is singular: delivering the best-fitting, best-feeling, and best-looking custom suits. Our pricing is not influenced by venue, guest count, or wedding scale, which means multiple consultations aren’t necessary. We value efficiency, clarity, and getting it right the first time.

We understand that a wedding is a significant milestone. At the same time, delivering perfectly fitting suits on time is what we do every single day. Our wedding clients receive the same process and level of care as all of our other clients, and that is a good thing. You want something as important as your wedding attire handled by a company that does this work consistently and well.

All we ask is that we follow our established process. We do not adjust or adopt the processes of other wedding vendors.

  • Our fabrics are constantly changing, and because of this we do not have an online catalogue of our fabric selections.

If you'd like to see some examples of our work, check out our gallery and Instagram! Don't hesitate to email if you have a specific color or style in mind!

  • We have never encountered a situation where a client had a specific request that we could not accommodate. In most cases, we are able to offer multiple options across a range of price points, so clients are never limited to a single choice. With the largest fabric selection in the region, you can be confident that your fitting will result in exactly what you are looking for.

  • We are certified Master Bespoke Clothiers.  All King Brothers suits are created using a bespoke process.

  • Custom

generally means you have some say in the design, such as selecting fabrics, linings, or buttons. However, it doesn't necessarily mean the suit is tailored specifically for your body. The basic structure of the suit is often already set, so while it's personalized in some ways, it isn't necessarily constructed to fit your unique shape.

    Made-to-Measure

is a very common practice in the custom clothing world, and for many people, it’s adequate. This process involves taking your measurements and adjusting a pre-existing pattern to fit your dimensions. While it provides a more personalized fit than off-the-rack, it still works within the limitations of a block pattern, meaning it may not fully account for unique body features like posture, shoulder slope, or other irregularities that many people have. For many, this level of customization is enough to achieve a better fit than ready-to-wear options.

    Bespoke

is the process in which a completely unique pattern is created specifically for your body.

While the term bespoke is often misunderstood, bespoke at its core goes beyond altering an existing block pattern. It involves designing and constructing an entirely new pattern from scratch for each individual client. Bespoke is not defined by how many fittings take place or whether the garment is full vs. half canvassed, but by whether this pattern-making process is used at all. It is a method that is either followed or it is not.

We are the only certified Master Bespoke Clothier in Minnesota and provide a fully bespoke experience and product. Every King Brothers garment starts with each client’s unique paper pattern that is then hand-cut, hand-sewn, and tailored to their exact anatomical specifications. This allows us to account for posture, body asymmetries, and overall structure, resulting in superior comfort and fit.

Although some believe bespoke requires a single individual handle every step, modern bespoke manufacturing relies on a highly skilled team and advanced techniques to achieve precision. Each garment is designed to enhance comfort, mobility, and appearance.

  • We offer custom sportcoats, trousers, overcoats, overshirts, denim, sweaters, polos, and other miscellaneous knitwear.
